The Myth of Overnight Success
Thanks to the increasing popularity in the teachings of law of attraction and positive thinking, more and more people are beginning to open up to the possibility that they can achieve great things. Instead of settling for the safer and steadier options, people are now striving for bigger and better in the knowledge that anything is possible.
With all of the many opportunities surrounding us, this a great time to be alive, but it is also a confusing one. With more opportunities comes more choice, and with more choice comes more inner conflict.
Even though we are more open than ever about our dreams and desires (especially with the growing use of social media), we are also more closed about the realities. When it comes to reaching goals, people like to talk about the journey, but not necessarily show it. Well, certainly not all of it.
We usually get to see the highlight reel and not all of the hard and often mundane slog that is going on in the background. Yes, even the most desirable dreams come with elements of the mundane.
Now of course that’s fine because not everything has to be shared, but when we are only seeing the end result of something and not the whole process, it’s easy to believe that it was achieved in an effortlessly and virtually overnight manner.
The truth is, there is no such thing as an overnight success and if you were to look at anyones real journey of accomplishment you will see it took a lot of hard work, dedication, time, sacrifice and failure. Yep, that’s right, even failure!
One of the biggest myths surrounding success is that there are no bumps in the road, but success is rarely a smooth ride. In fact, one of the things that makes people so successful is everything they have learned from failing. There are so many lessons to be learned from when things go wrong and it is often the process of overcoming challenges that allows us to grow and become even greater than before.
Success is also a result from another type of growth and that is through active self-development. In order to achieve your dreams you need to have the right mindset and know-how to make things happen. This will require you to develop new skills and perhaps even improve on the ones you already have. None of which can happen overnight!
Great things take time and are the result or consistent (and frankly sometimes boring) action, combined with the belief that you can achieve great things. Unfortunately there can be a tendency to waver on one or the other, but you really do need both to succeed.
For those of us on the Goddess path, it’s easy to get caught up with the belief that success is as simple as just thinking, affirming, visualising, or meditating on it and it will come our way. Of course these are great tools for your jewel kit, but that’s what they are, tools to help make the job easier. There is still a job to be done. You can’t avoid the actual work and expect things to just come to you no matter how many times you think it/ affirm it or visualise it so.
Don’t get me wrong, these are powerful exercises, and can be a great support, but let them be a catalyst and not a distraction for taking aligned action that will actually get you the results you desire.
If you really want something then you have to be ok with the long and slightly bumpy journey to achieving it. You have to accept that it will require work, you have to accept that it will take time and you have to accept that there will be challenges along the way.
Success might not look like the carefully curated instagram timeline we’re accustomed to seeing, but if we can stick with it, it will be more than worth it in the end.
