    Ascendant
Also referred to as the rising sign. The zodiacal sign and degree that is rising on the eastern horizon at the time the chart is cast. The ascendant is found within the first house of a chart and usually marks the cusp of this house, depending on which house system is being used. It is calculated based on the time, date and place of the event that the chart has been cast for. The ascendent is always exactly opposite the descendant.
