  • Where do I resist rest and where do I relish it?

Journalling is the practice of writing about our thoughts, feelings, experiences and ideas and is a great way to connect to ourselves on a deeper level.

Each week we’ll be providing you with a new question, topic or idea to explore. This weeks journal prompt is:

Where do I resist rest and where do I relish it?

Rest is something we all need, yet many of us feel a sense of guilt and shame around taking time out to recuperate. Today’s prompt is about exploring our relationship with rest so that we can start to take a more healthier approach to it. One that helps us to relish our relaxation time instead of resisting it.

Journalling is a personal process, but we’d love to hear any insights or ideas that come up for you, that you’d be willing to share.

The things I do when ‘resting’ aren’t always very restful. TV comes to mind… keeps my mind stimulated distracts, and in a way, ends up being quite draining 🙁

Yeah, I hear that. Sometimes those things are needed but other times they are just adding to our levels of ‘doing’. I think sometimes we feel we have to always be doing something, even in our restful moments.

yes, real rest can bring up restlessness. Then at least that’s a sign we’re leaning into it/in the right direction. I guess it’s about being with the restlessness

Absolutely, like can we sit with this discomfort and be ok. I’ve realised that for me I often feel this discomfort in my body and my natural instinct is to try and do something to take it away. Something I am definitely working on!
