Journaling is the practice of writing about our thoughts, feelings, experiences and ideas and is a great way to connect to ourselves on a deeper level.

Each week we’ll be providing you with a new question, topic or idea to explore. This weeks journal prompt is:

Is my productivity problematic when it comes to being present in my life?

We live in a world that often tells us that our value and even our purpose is based on what we can produce. Whilst productivity can play a part in helping us create a life of balance, bliss and brilliance, at what point do we allow ourselves to just be present instead of constantly striving and in some cases surviving the next thing.

As humans, we all have a desire to evolve and grow, whether that is through the attainment of achieving our personal goals, or meeting our basic human needs. And there is nothing wrong with that, but it can leave us feeling like whatever we do is never enough, and that we by extension are never enough.

Can you identify where your need to be productive might be currently taking away your presence and peace?

Journalling is a personal process but we’d love to hear any insights that come up for you, that you’d be willing to share.

    Another very thought-provoking topic 😬 😀

What makes it hard for me is I start to be productive to attain peace… and it works… but in the short term! Gotta then keep up this ‘productivity’ to feel at peace and okay with ourselves. But for me it can feel rather shallow. The real flex… coming back to being with the good old discomfort and finding peace/comfort in that.

As you say productivity isn’t bad in of itself but good to be in touch with what we’re really using it for. My latest saying is ‘I am not a machine’ and it’s a real helpful reminder to myself that I am more than my productivity whatever I may be feeling, thinking at that moment in time.

Would love to hear what’s coming up for others? X

Glad they are provoking some interesting thoughts 😊. Yeah, one of the things I am really noticing is how often I can have a ‘productive day’ and feel great during and shortly after those moments, but then there can be this feeling of emptiness later on. It makes me think about what is really going on and what is it that I really need or am seeking. Those productive moments were needed don’t get me wrong, but how am I perhaps placing too much importance or power on that sense of achievement xx
